What does it take to turn struggle into success? For Petchy, it was about transforming hardship into opportunity, learning the ropes of sales from childhood, and carrying that entrepreneurial spirit into adulthood.
At just six years old, Petchy was already out on the streets, carrying baskets of balut and okoy, weaving through crowds at barangay fiestas to help her family make ends meet. “Alam mo yung ikaw yung bata na gusto ko lang pong maglaro. Bakit walang choice?” she recalled, carrying the innocence of a childhood overshadowed by responsibility.
The weight of responsibility rested heavily on her small shoulders. While other children played, she was out selling her goods. Yet, she found ways to adapt and stay hopeful—watching her parents work tirelessly, day in and day out.
Growing Up with Grit
As she grew older, Petchy’s entrepreneurial spirit only grew stronger. In college, she sold pastillas to her classmates, juggling her studies while supporting her family. Her ability to connect with people and her natural charm made her a successful student vendor. But her journey didn’t stop there.
After graduation, Petchy took on a full-time corporate job, hoping for a stable income. But old habits die hard. Seeing an opportunity to earn more, she started selling fruits to her colleagues. "Naka-corporate attire ka pero may dalawa kang bayong na dala,” she laughed, recalling how she would pitch her products like a pro.
It was clear—sales and entrepreneurship were deeply ingrained in her life. Every step she took was driven by her desire to provide for her loved ones and build a better future.
Heartbreak and Resilience
Heartbreak tested Petchy, but it also became the source of her strength. In 2021, she faced one of her greatest challenges—her mother’s passing left her and her siblings feeling lost and broken. “As in lost kami magkakapatid,” she shared, the pain evident in her voice. Yet, amidst the grief, she found strength.
“Kaya sobrang grateful ko na kung ano man yung meron ako ngayon, siya yung reason kung bakit.” Her mother’s sacrifices became her driving force. Determined to carry on her legacy, Petchy channeled her grief into something productive.
Finding Her Path in Lhoopa
She explored various part-time jobs to ease her family’s financial burden, from online gigs to temporary roles. But nothing seemed to work out—until she started selling affordable houses through Lhoopa.
"Kaya nung time na ‘yung brother ko nag-avail ng property na under nga sa Lhoopa, so sabi ko, why not i-push ko na lang din siya?" At that moment, Petchy realized that if she fully committed to this opportunity, she might finally find the success she’d been searching for.
After trying countless part-time jobs, Petchy realized that real estate wasn’t just another opportunity—it was her chance to turn her sales skills into a career. Years of selling different products had prepared her for the industry’s challenges.
She started small, learning the ropes, studying market trends, and building connections. Her entrepreneurial background became her secret weapon. She treated every house like a product from her childhood, selling not just the property but the dream of a better life.
Rising to Success
“The following year, nag-boom yung career ko ng real estate.” Her efforts finally paid off. She was able to provide for her family and fulfill her father’s wishes. After losing her mother, Petchy became even more determined to make life easier for her father, who had always been her source of strength. “While tatay is there, bigay namin kung anong gusto niya,” she shared, her eyes reflecting gratitude and joy.
Petchy’s journey didn’t end there. She’s now planning to start her own business, hoping to inspire others who grew up facing the same struggles.
"Strive lang. Kung may goal ka in life, push mo lang. Maraming ups and downs along the way, pero continue lang."
Petchy’s journey is proof that no glass ceiling is unbreakable, no barrier insurmountable. Her story reminds us that when dreams are nurtured and hope is fueled, nothing is impossible.
